Seafarer e-money platform gains bank’s official approval

On 10 December 2019, MarCoPay Inc. received a certificate of registration from the central bank of the Philippines named as Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), approving the company to officially operate as an electronic money issuer.

K Line, MOL, NYK share data with ONE through common data platform

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K LINE), Mitsui O.S.K Lines, Ltd. (MOL), and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) have started sharing of operational data acquired from the monitoring system installed in their container ships with their charter, Ocean Network Express Pte. Ltd. (ONE), through the IoS-Open Platform (IoS-OP) promoted by Ship Data Center Ltd. (ShipDC).

NYK to launch digital payment for seafarers

Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) partnered with Philippines-based conglomerate Transnational Diversified Group to present an electronic money platform in favour of seafarers, called ‘MarCoPay’, adapting features of Accenture and Citi. The smart platform, located in Manila, is equally owned by NYK and TDG.

NYK to develop software that assists berthing

NYK partners with Monohakobi Technology Institute (MTI) and Japan Marine Science (JMS) to develop a system that assists with vessel berthing. The patent helps a vessel to be easily controlled and also visualizes the challenges in the berthing operation to decrease the burden on the operator and mitigate accidents caused by human factors.

New software developed to detect combustion chamber issues

NYK by combining photo data with operational data from the ship information management system, as well as engine data from an electronic checklist, developed the software to diagnose internal chamber conditions. NYK has also developed a smaller version of Kirari NINJA, which photographs smaller cylinders.

NYK introduces new ship-bridge concept to reduce casualties

Japanese shipping company NYK has completed a new concept for a ship’s bridge and employed it on a large container ship. The space and nautical instruments on this new bridge have been designed to take advantage of IoT aspects of instruments and to improve the safety and efficiency of vessel operation.

NYK launches tool to detect ship engine problems

In collaboration with MTI Corporation, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha developed the diagnostic tool “Kirari MUSE” that collects the operating sound of ships’ engine equipment in an effort to utilize big data. Kirari MUSE visualizes the sound of the engine and it diagnoses the condition.
