Japanese shipping company NYK announced it has secured a syndicated sustainability-linked loan, Japan’s first advanced loan that allows for conditions such as the loan’s interest rate to be adjusted according to the borrower’s CSR performance.
The installation of the 11 wind turbines will be done in cooperation with the Port of Zeebrugge and Engie Electrabel, a local electricity and gas supplier, and the turbines are expected to start operations in 2019.
In a recent speech at the U.N., NYK was mentioned to be promoting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. NYK does this by encouraging creative solutions through innovation and business model changes to positively address issues that challenge society.
NYK has supported “Kishu Minabe Sea Turtle Research Project” launched by the authorized NPO EarthWatch Japan. Seventeen NYK group employees volunteered to participate in the research which was conducted in July of this year.
The FTSE Group, designed to measure the performance of companies demonstrating strong Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices, has selected NYK as a constituent in the FTSE4Good Index, marking the 14th straight year that the company has been included in this major yardstick for socially responsible investment (SRI).
On November 30, NYK welcomed about 60 environmental supervisors from 46 NYK Group companies to the group’s annual Environmental Management Conference in Tokyo. NYK holds this conference once a year with NYK Group companies to share information on environmental practices and strengthen environmental management within the group.
NYK has been included in the CDP’s Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) for a fourth consecutive year.
