Japanese shipping company NYK announced it has secured a syndicated sustainability-linked loan, Japan’s first advanced loan that allows for conditions such as the loan’s interest rate to be adjusted according to the borrower’s CSR performance.
Japanese shipping company NYK welcomed 35 students and their professor from the Netherlands’ Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) on July 30 to examine the group’s initiatives for “Digitalization and Green,” the theme of the company’s medium-term management plan.
NYK informed that it has concluded a contract with Japan Marine United Corporation to construct a next-generation energy-saving bulk carrier. After delivery in 2021, the ship is planned to transport raw materials for JFE Steel Corporation under a long-term charter contract between NYK and JFE Steel.

Two NYK-operated vessels have been awarded the Panama Canal Authority’s Green Connection Award, a new initiative to recognize vessels who demonstrate excellent environmental stewardship.
NYK announced that has been selected, for a fourth consecutive year, “Best Green Shipping Line” by HAROPA, a joint venture comprising the French ports of Le Havre, Rouen, and Paris.
NYK recently announced that it has acquired a 25 percent share of EMAS Chiyoda Subsea Limited, based on an agreement signed on June 10 with Ezra Holdings Limited and the Chiyoda Corporation.
NYK is participating in a study launched by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Tourism (MLIT) to explore the feasibility of LNG bunkering in Yokohama.
The 2015 NYK Report has been honored with an award for excellence in the environmental reporting category at the 19th Environmental Communication Awards, which are jointly sponsored by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment and the Global Environmental Forum, a non-profit organization based in Tokyo.
