The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate issued the preliminary production figures for May 2019, indicating an average daily production of 1,599,000 barrels of oil, NGL and condensate. These numbers are a decrease of 120,000 barrels per day in comparison to April.

Norwegian Government's State Secretary Marianne Hagen commented on maritime security in the Western Indian Ocean, during a ministerial conference. She highlighted that Somali piracy hasn't been eradicated yet. The State Secretary noted that Norway wishes to maintain its capacity on prosecuting and imprisoning pirates here in the region, with Mauritius, the Seychelles and Kenya as important partners.

Swedish oil and gas company Lundin Norway, a subsidiary of Lundin Petroleum AB, has made two oil discoveries in exploration wells 16/1-31 S (Jorvik) and 16/1-31 A (Tellus East) on the eastern edge of the Edvard Grieg field in PL338 on the Utsira High, in the North Sea. 

Norway officially inaugurated production on the gas field Aasta Hansteen in Sandnessjøen on 19 June. The field means that, for the first time, gas can be delivered to Europe from the north of the Arctic Circle. The operation of the field provides new activity and jobs in Northern Norway.

Norway's Ministry of Petroleum and Energy revealed plans to send a proposal on hearing to open the area of Utsira Nord outside the coast of Rogaland for applications on floating offshore wind. The hearing is planned to open before summer.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate announced that it has granted Equinor Energy AS a drilling permit for well 6507/2-5 S cf. Section 15 of the Resource Management Regulations. Equinor Energy AS is the operator with an ownership interest of 40%. The permit mandates that the operator will secure all other permits and consents necessary by other authorities before starting the drilling activity.

The Norwegian government introduced new rules for passenger ships in Svalbard, in the Arctic Ocean, in a bid to improve safety and security in this fragile Arctic environment. The rules apply to both Norwegian and foreign ships.

The Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority revealed irregularities on Equinor’s Sleipner A platform in the North Sea. The issues concern the working environment on the platform, as the audit resulted to long working hours, increased workloads, noise and chemicals protection.

The Norwegian Parliament decided that Norway should ratify the Nairobi Wreck Removal Convention and that the Convention must be given effect not only in Norway's exclusive economic zone, but also in its territorial waters. The Norwegian Parliament also adopted legislation to implement the Wreck Removal Convention into Norwegian law once ratified.

According to local sources, a cargo boat had suffered a partially crashed wheelhouse, when it collided on the Nordhordland Bridge near Steinestø, Norway, at the weekend. The vessel had seven people onboard, yet no injuries were reported.
