IMO wants to ensure a sustainable maritime future for Africa

A wide-ranging discussion during the "Africa@Nor-Shipping" event in Oslo, Norway explored various topics regarding unlocking the full potential of Africa's blue economy. Three separate expert panels discussed addressed competition among different maritime sectors, ocean governance and the importance of complying with international regulations especially IMO’s ship safety, maritime security and environment rules.

EALs performance leads to upgrade to shaft alignment rules

During Nor-Shipping 2019, DNV GL informed that it will update its shaft alignment design rules to differentiate between Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (EALs) and mineral oils in stern tubes. The update, will apply from 1 July 2019, and is based on the phase 1 findings from the joint development project DNV GL has been operating along with the Swedish Club, Norwegian Hull Club, Gard and Skuld.

Color Hybrid receives ‘Ship of the Year 2019’ title

The world’s largest plug-in hybrid vessel, Color Hybrid, received the title of 'Ship of the Year 2019'. Ulstein Group CEO Gunvor Ulstein received the Award from HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, during the Nor-Shipping exhibition on 4 June 2019. It will feature a battery package of 4.7 MWh, thus being able to travel 12 nautical miles only on battery power, charged with shore power in Sandefjord.
