MPA Singapore conducts ferry drill to test emergency preparedness

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) held a half-day ferry evacuation exercise to test the readiness of various agencies to respond to potential ferry mishaps in the Port of Singapore. To practise the ferry crew on the passenger management and evacuation drills at sea, the exercise scenario involved an inbound regional ferry which struck an object and had taken in water while en route to TMFT. As a precautionary measure, the ferry master evacuated the 62 passengers on board into life rafts for transfer to a second ferry via MPA Patrol Craft. There were no injuries reported.

MPA Singapore revokes bunker licenses for two companies

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has revoked the bunker craft operator licence of Seaquest Tanker Pte Ltd and the bunker supplier and bunker craft operator licences of Vermont UM Bunkering Pte Ltd, with effect from 26 and 27 April 2016 respectively. The two companies will no longer be allowed to operate as bunker suppliers and bunker craft operators in the Port of Singapore.

MPA Singapore launches new Master and Chief Engineer programmes

A new Certificate of Competency (CoC) Class 4 Master and Chief Engineer (Special Limit) programmess will be introduced by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the National Trades Union Congress’ (NTUC) e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) and the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA). The new programmes aim to deepen the skills of seafarers so that they could progress in their careers to become Masters and Chief Engineers.
