The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA Singapore) published a video providing information on how e-navigation enables safe, secure, efficient and sustainable shipping in the global maritime community, presenting the “Digital Trader” vessel sailing from Norway to Singapore.
In this video, Luca Volta, Marine Fuels Venture Manager, ExxonMobil and Alan Lim, Deputy Director, MPA, discuss the latest challenges of IMO 2020, from enforcement to alternative compliance choices such as scrubbers and LNG. Explaining how the Port of Singapore prepares for the 2020 sulphur cap, Alan Lim said that MPA Singapore is working on two fronts. The first is to ensure availability of compliant fuels at the Port.
The video informs on the Certificate of Competency Class 4 programme, introduced by Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, that aims to improve skills of seafarers and upgrade their positions on board ships and onshore, and, therefore, give them another career path in the maritime sector.
Videos showcase helpful tips and practices on safe navigation across the Singapore Strait (Westbound & Eastbound) . They are a joint production by Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore to enhance awareness for the safe passage in the area, which is one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes, carrying about one third of the world’s traded goods.
Through this video Muhammad Danial Bin Abdul Razak, student at at the Singapore Maritime Academy, makes clear why not only he but also other highly trained engineers are essential in keeping a ship in good seaworthy conditions.
