Liberia Foreign Minister McIntosh meets IMO Secretary-General Mitropoulos

Liberia is satisfied with the excellent work of the Organization His Excellency Dr. Toga Gayewea McIntosh, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia met with IMO Secretary-General Efthimios E. Mitropoulos at IMO Headquarters (on Wednesday, 15 June).In welcoming the Minister and his delegation, which included His Excellency Mr. Wesley M. Johnson, Ambassador of Liberia to the United Kingdom; Her Excellency Mrs. Ethel Davis, Ambassador of Liberia to Germany; and His Excellency Mr. Alexander Wallace, Ambassador of Liberia to Egypt, Secretary-General Mitropoulos expressed his appreciation for Liberia's long-standing support to the work of the Organization and its exemplary record in the ratification of the majority of the numerous treaties developed by the Organization.Mr. Mitropoulos also commended Liberia for the sustained safety record of its merchant fleet and for maintaining the development of its maritime infrastructure as one of its priorities, citing as examples the fully-functioning Regional Marine Rescue Coordination Centre (RMRCC), which was inaugurated, in Monrovia, in 2009, and the full revitalization of the Liberian Maritime Training Institute (LMTI), which reopened its doors to maritime students and became fully operational this year, after closing in 1990 due to the civil unrest in the country.In his remarks, Minister McIntosh reiterated ...
