The maritime authorities of the Government of Mexico have agreed to place a high priority on ratifying three important IMO legal conventions, following a workshop in Mexico City. These are the 2003 Fund Protocol, the 2001 Bunkers Convention and the 2007 Nairobi Wreck Removal Convention.

Growth of real gross domestic product (GDP) in the G20 area reduced to 0.7% in the second quarter of 2019, in comparison to 0.8% in the previous quarter, according to OECD provisional estimates. On the other hand, GDP growth showed a strong increase in South Africa and Korea, to 0.8% and 1.0%, respectively.

The Mexican Naval Forces busted two packages containing cocaine from a cargoship in Altamira port, Mexico. According to the navy, the forces located 49 kg among iron ore at the carrier's cargo hold. The Cyprus-flagged general cargo vessel arrived at the port of Altamira on September 5 from Colombia's Barranquilla port. 

Contecon Manzanillo (CMSA), the Mexican subsidiary of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) at the Port of Manzanillo, recently achieved its first year-to-date, four-millionth TEU milestone, at a time when the company embarks on expansion works to increase capacity.

According to the statement issued by Mexico's Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), 19 Filipino seafarers were detained in Mexico over alleged violation of the country's illegal drug law. DFA stated that no formal charges have been filed against the detained seafarers yet, but local officials are cooperating with Mexican authorities. 

Mexico is considering to upgrade the Port of Manzanillo with four new terminals. The Mexican government expects to collect about USD 1.2 billion from public and private entities, in order to fund the expansion project. The new terminals will feature a specialized container facility, which will have the capacity to handle 1.75 million TEUs per year, one for agricultural bulk, another for mineral bulk and a specialized facility for hydrocarbons.

According to EIA, the US crude oil production and lease condensate, accomplished a milestone in April 2019, with 12.2 million barrels per day. April 2019 is the first time that monthly US crude oil production surpassed the 12 million bpd. This record follows August's 2018 record, when US crude oil production surpassed the 11 million bdp.

Oceaneering International announced that it has secured a contract to carry out the first-ever deepwater Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) survey in Mexican waters. BHP will conduct the geophysical survey. BHP will carry out the geophysical survey at its Trion development, and currently, work is underway and will continue for around 45 days.

On June 6 in port Everglades, Florida, the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Hamilton offloaded about 26,000 pounds of seized cocaine and 1,500 pounds of seized marijuana. The cocaine is worth approximately $348 million, whereas the marijuana $1.6 million.
