MSC confirmed the order of five 23,000 TEU ULCVs from the South Korean Daewoo yard, a step that will take the Geneva-based carrier’s orderbook to 16 vessels, for a massive 305,352 TEU. This new order is reportedly in line with MSC’s order for 11 ships made in 2017.

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company announced that MSC Gülsün, the world’s largest container ship, has arrived in Europe after completing its landmark maiden voyage from the north of China. MSC Gülsün is the first of a new class of 23,000+ TEU vessels to be added in 2019-2020 to the global shipping network of MSC, built at the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) Geoje shipyard in South Korea.

Samsung Heavy Industries delivered the largest containership to the Swiss Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) from South Korea. The vessel is the first of the six 23,000 TEU-class vessels that MSC ordered in 2017.

The new CEO of South Korean shipping company Hyundai Merchant Marine wants to improve relations with Maersk and the Mediterranean Shipping Company of the 2M alliance. For this reason, Jae-hoon Bae will visit the two companies to strengthen their ties. Currently, the company has an agreement to swap container space with Maersk and MSC on trades between the Far East and US, which will expire in a year.

Two of the biggest container shipping companies, Maersk and the Mediterranean Shipping Company, were cleared in an investigation of the sector by the US Department of Justice, on Tuesday February 26. If the investigation was to charge the companies, it could have imposed large fines at a time when the container sector faces many difficulties due to slowing global economic growth.
