IMO focuses on improving the efficiency of shipping

IMO’s Facilitation Committee addresses the efficiency of shipping by dealing with all matters regarding the facilitation of international maritime traffic, including the arrival, stay and departure of ships, persons and cargo from ports. The Committee is meeting for its 43rd session, from 8 to 12 of April, coinciding with the entry into force of new requirements for all public authorities to introduce electronic exchange of information between ships and ports.

Canada decides to extend satellite AIS contract

ORBCOMM, a provider of Machine-to-Machine and Internet of Things solutions, announced that Canada has exercised the option for an additional year on their contract through ORBCOMM's Canadian partner Maerospace, a supplier of AIS data and maritime domain awareness solutions. ORBCOMM will be providing satellite AIS data for ship tracking and other maritime navigational and safety efforts to Canada.

Port of Amsterdam: IJmuiden lock complex route not ready to open

The Port of Amsterdam informed that it cannot open up the route via the IJmuiden lock complex for traffic in April 2019. This is because the safety on the lock route can still not be sufficiently guaranteed due to the many construction activities at the new sealock. It is not  known when the route will open again. This will not affect the delivery date of the new sea lock at the beginning of 2022.
