Officials have been told the reef could face a tenfold increase in bulk ship traffic as coal and gas exports boom, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.The delegation from UNESCO's World Heritage Committee and the International Union for Conservation of Nature follows ''extreme concern'' from the heritage committee last year over a proposed liquid natural gas plant near Gladstone, a small town near the Queensland coast. The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) in Johor handled 7.5M TEU in 2011, representing an increase of 15% over 2010, outperforming the reported global volume growth of 7%."This sharp increase was driven by strong organic growth from existing customers as well as volume from new customers," said Azlan Shahrim, Deputy CEO."Container volume from PTP's main existing customers, Maersk Line and Evergreen, increased by 16% over the previous year. The port has also seen new shipping lines during the year, including Hanjin and STX Pan Ocean of Korea, Mitsui and K-Line of Japan and China Shipping."From just two shipping lines in our early days, we now have 26 shipping lines and container operators.
