Canada decides to extend satellite AIS contract

ORBCOMM, a provider of Machine-to-Machine and Internet of Things solutions, announced that Canada has exercised the option for an additional year on their contract through ORBCOMM's Canadian partner Maerospace, a supplier of AIS data and maritime domain awareness solutions. ORBCOMM will be providing satellite AIS data for ship tracking and other maritime navigational and safety efforts to Canada.

Hapag-Lloyd to use XVELA to improve transparency in transportation supply chain

XVELA, a maritime business network for ocean carriers and terminal operators, announced that Hapag-Lloyd plans to implement its collaboration services to improve transparency throughout the transportation supply chain and more efficiently employ assets and resources. The first phase of this rollout will use XVELA’s services to enhance communication and collaboration between Hapag-Lloyd planners and terminal partners.

Agreement reached for European Maritime Single Window

On 8 February 2019 an agreement was reached between the European Council, the European Commission and the European Parliament, regarding the proposal to harmonize ship notifications in Europe, through the a European Maritime Single Window. The final text includes an agreement that provides security for Port Community Systems in relation to the public National Single Windows that have to act as a 'mailbox' for reports to authorities.
