NAPA, a maritime software, services and data analysis provider and ChartWorld, a digital chart agent, announced their partnership to provide artificial intelligence-driven voyage planning and optimization. The solution incorporates modules for evaluating the operational efficiency of past voyages. It then uses this data to improve the efficiency of future transits where there are similar variables and trends.

European shipbuilders join forces to advance vessel connectivity

Some of the biggest European shipbuilders announced that they have created a new cooperative initiative to develop a connected vessel platform. This project is named Code Kilo and aims to address the digitalisation challenges of various stakeholders. Specifically, EUROYARDS members -  Chantiers de l’Atlantique, Damen Shipyards Group, Fincantieri, Lürssen, Meyer Werft, Naval Group and Navantia - collaborated to improve data management solutions and standards.

BIMCO receives support for proposal to harmonize data

BIMCO has received solid support for a submission at the 43rd session of the Facilitation Committee meeting (FAL 43) held at the IMO Headquarters on 8-12 April, that will ensure harmonisation of data exchanges and limit the administrative burden for ships. The submission proposed the introduction of additional e-business solutions that supplement communication stipulated in the FAL Convention.

Canada decides to extend satellite AIS contract

ORBCOMM, a provider of Machine-to-Machine and Internet of Things solutions, announced that Canada has exercised the option for an additional year on their contract through ORBCOMM's Canadian partner Maerospace, a supplier of AIS data and maritime domain awareness solutions. ORBCOMM will be providing satellite AIS data for ship tracking and other maritime navigational and safety efforts to Canada.
