Technology giant Rolls-Royce signed a MoU with manufacturer MAN Energy Solutions to collaborate on mýa, the open asset and fleet management system. Launched by MAN earlier this year, Mýa is an open digital platform enabling the integration of OEM data across the marine, power, and energy industries.

Many climate experts predict that the next ten years are crucial, thus our actions within this decade will decide whether we are able to reach the ambitious goals of the Paris agreement limiting the global temperature increase to 1.5°C until 2050. Yet, recent studies show that G20 nations are currently failing to reach their climate goals.

MAN Energy Solutions and Wessels Marine GmbH have announced a technical showcase where the 2017-retrofitted 'Wes Amelie', a 1,036-TEU feeder container ship, will use liquefied SNG (Synthetic Natural Gas) produced from renewable electrical energy as drop-in fuel. 

Kongsberg and MAN Energy Solutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding in September, aiming to explore the potential for cooperation on a common data infrastructure for the maritime sector. Germany-based MAN Energy Solutions  announced it has become a partner of the Bavarian Hydrogen Council, focusing on expanding hydrogen technology in Bavaria. Alfa Laval announced that, in partnership with MAN Energy Solutions, the Alfa Laval Fuel Conditioning Module (FCM) LPG has undergone successful tests with the first two-stroke, high-pressure marine engine to use LPG as fuel – and has been evaluated for use with ammonia.

Hapag-Lloyd ordered the world’s first mega-container vessel, MV SAJIR, retrofit to LNG from MAN Energy Solutions. The pilot project will include the conversion of the current HFO-burning engine to a dual-fuel prime mover capable of running on HFO and LNG. The retrofit of MV SAJIR will be done at the Chinese Hudong/HRDD shipyard.

MAN PrimeServ, the after-sales division of the German MAN Energy Solutions, secured a contract to convert two RoPax ferries of the Spanish operator Baleària to dual-fuel operation, the first conversion of its kind in shipping. The engines of ‘Nápoles’ and ‘Sicilia’ will be converted to enable running on LNG.

He highlights that training plays critical role to industry and requires a commitment by all stakeholders related to the training of seagoing personnel or their corresponding technical staff in the office.
