MAN Diesel & Turbo announced the signing of a MoU with Hyundai Heavy Industries Engine & Machinery Division on the development and production of an LPG dual-fuel engine. Upon completion, HHI-EMD will be able to deliver LPG-fueled, two-stroke-propulsion engines.

MAN Diesel & Turbo said its Part-Load Optimisation has delivered significant fuel savings for auxiliary engines, while helping shipowners to maintain the engines in good working order. This is a tuning method that optimises fuel-oil consumption during the part-load operation of four-stroke, small-bore MAN auxiliary engines.
According to the agreement, this regards the maintenance of the 2,586 TEU container carrier, the ‘MCC Mandalay’. It also covers the provision of spare parts, maintenance management and the servicing of the vessel’s MAN B&W 6G60ME main engine, in cooperation with Arkas’ on-board crew.
MAN Diesel & Turbo signed a framework agreement with China Classification Society, aiming to strengthen cooperation in the fields of ship design, ship-type research & development, ship power, ship automation, environmental protection, intelligent ship and battery solutions.
MAN Diesel & Turbo announced that its dual-fuel MAN L23/30DF engine passed its Type Approval Test on November 2nd 2017 at CSSC Marine Power in Zhenjiang in front of the industry’s main classification societies.
In connection with the Europort 2017 exhibition for maritime technology in Rotterdam, the German shipping company Wessels Reederei signed a letter of intent with MAN Diesel & Turbo regarding the conversion of three of its fleet to dual-fuel gas operation.
TOTE Maritime Alaska, a daughter company of TOTE Inc., recently contracted MAN PrimeServ, MAN Diesel & Turbo’s after-sales division, to convert roll on/roll off vessels to dual-fuel operation on LNG. The ‘North Star’ and ‘Midnight Sun’ are currently both powered by 4 × MAN 58/64 engines and will be retrofitted to MAN 58/64 retrofit units.
MAN Diesel & Turbo informed that it has renewed service agreement with Brazilian oil major Petrobras for maintenance of 20 gas turbines and compressors on its four platforms, located in the Atlantic Campos Basin.
Speaking at the ‘Our Ocean 2017 Conference’ in Malta, on 5-6 October, Wayne Jones, OBE, Chief Sales Officer of MAN Diesel & Turbo, informed that the company is pledging a 2 million Euro discount for 10 LNG-retrofits to convert engines into clean gas-engines.
The first retrofit conversion of Wes Amelie to dual-fuel operation has been concluded successfully, enabling the container ship to significantly reduce its SOx, NOx and CO2 emissions by 99%, 90% and 20% respectively.
