During 15-21 May, two incidents of armed robbery against ships were reported to the ReCAAP ISC. The first involves the product tanker 'Kirana Tritya' while anchored at Panjang Anchorage. The second involves the tug boat 'Budget 19' that was towing the barge 'Budget 29', off Southern Johor, Malaysia.

Jamaica is selected to be among the 10 countries that will take part in the Global Maritime Energy Efficiency Partnerships Project, which aims to support the implementation of energy-efficiency measures to reduce GHG emissions from shipping. The other countries are Argentina, China, Georgia, India, Malaysia, Morocco, Panama, Philippines and South Africa.

One worker is missing after an offshore drilling vessel caught fire off Sarawak, in Malaysian waters, South China Sea, in the morning hours of 17 April.  According to initial reports, at about 3am, an explosion occurred in the vessel's engine room which led to the fire.

One crewman died and 14 other are reported missing, after the Dominica-flagged hopper dredger 'JBB Rong Chang 8' capsized off Parit Jawa, Johor State, Malaysia, Malacca Strait, in the morning hours of Wednesday, 21 March. Three crewmen were rescued. A search and rescue operation is underway by Malaysian authorities.

After an agreement was signed between the port services provider, the government and Port Kelang Authority earlier this week, Northport was granted the 30-year concession for Northport and Southpoint until November 30, 2043.

Three littoral states, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, and the Malacca Strait Council of Japan officially commenced the second phase of a joint hydrographic survey of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore, on 5 March, aiming to improve navigational safety in the region.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission started an investigation on MISC, regarding bribery allegations. The company said that it will cooperate with MACC in the investigation and will provide support as well. MISC officials are suspects for alleged corruption for about $28 million. MACC followed up on an information regarding alleged MISC officers making false payment claims.

Maritime industry group, Wilhelmsen Ship Management, announced that it will be relocating its global headquarters from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Singapore within the first quarter of 2018. The company made this decision as part of its recent initiatives to be nearer to current clients and also future market.

A US-based exploration company will resume the search for the missing plane of Malaysia Airlines' flight MH370 in the Indian Ocean, after receiving the 'go-ahead' by the Malaysian government. The incident remains one of the world's most significant aviation mysteries.
