A recent Malaysian Marine Department declaration foresees an alteration to the Port Limits for Johore Bahru Port, extending the limits of the port in its southernmost state and encroaching the territorial waters of Singapore. In response, MPA of Singapore said it does not recognise the Port Limits published and reminded operators that Singapore’s territorial waters extend westward of Singapore’s current port limits around Tuas and vessels operating in this area are to continue to comply with applicable Singapore regulations.

A tanker was detained in the morning hours of 3 October while conducting illegal ship-to-ship (STS) fuel transfer at the Tanjung Pelepas Port, for failing to obtain permit for the activity from the Marine Department director, under the Section 491B (1)(k) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952.

While underway, the Chief Officer detected a small boat alongside the ship. Shortly thereafter, 14 perpetrators armed with knives and machetes boarded the ship. The perpetrators robbed all the 12 crew of their personal belongings. Two crew were slightly injured in the process.
