Updated standard released for pipeline systems integrity

The American Petroleum Institute released the third edition of API Recommended Practice 1160 (RP 1160), ‘Managing System Integrity for Hazardous Liquid Pipelines,’ on February 27. RP 1160 provides a process for ensuring safe pipeline operations, including robust assessments of potential risks and establishment of systems to safely and efficiently manage them during day-to-day operations.

UK Chamber raises safety concerns on offshore wind developments

Responding to the UK Government’s plans to greenlight millions of pounds’ worth of new offshore developments, the UK Chamber of Shipping warned that coordination and forward planning is essential to ensure new windfarms do not pose navigational safety risks for vessels and the environment. 

New procedure to limit fishing gear damages from offshore wind farms

US company Deepwater Wind announced a new procedure to prevent impacts to commercial fishing gear from offshore wind energy activities. The procedure was developed in cooperation with the commercial fishing industry and is based on informing fishermen in ports in the Atlantic coast.

Report addresses good and poor practices for safe offshore operations

The Health and Safety Working Group of the North Sea Offshore Authorities Forum, discussed challenges for the oil and gas industry. The challenges related to maintaining and operating ageing installations in a lower oil price environment was selected, and a series of audits were conducted under the theme of Maintaining Safe Operations.
