In line with its vision for an emission-neutral cruising, AIDA Cruises, the German brand of Carnival Corporation, is planning the first practical trial of fuel cells aboard an AIDA ship by 2021, the company said in its sustainability report released Monday.
LNG fueled vessels
Brittany Ferries confirmed the names for its next two ships. The first one is Kerry, an one-year charter vessel that is expected to arrive in November 2019. The second one is Santoña, chosen for the company’s third E-Flexer class ship.
As of 1 August, the Port will be increasing this incentive by doubling the maximum ESI discount for vessels that are in the possession of an ESI certificate and use LNG for their main engine or auxiliary engine. The Port also aims to have a bunker pontoon for LNG in place in the Port of Amsterdam by the end of 2018.
Major cruise firm Carnival Corporation officially opened its second cruise terminal at the Port of Barcelona with an inauguration ceremony attended by government, business and community representatives. The Helix terminal will accommodate Carnival’s new class of next-generation “green” cruise ships to be fully operated by LNG.
Gearing up for the 2020 global sulphur cap, Singapore-based APL said it will be using low-sulphur fuel oil across its vessel fleet, employ scrubbers on some of its ships, while it will also deploy LNG-fueled vessels, under its parent group CMA CGM’s earlier announced plans to take delivery of nine new 22,000 TEU LNG-powered ships.
