NYK and Mitsui conclude time-charter contract for LNG carrier

On September 26, NYK concluded a time-charter contract with Mitsui & Co. Ltd. for a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier for the Cameron LNG project based in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The ship will be delivered in 2018 and assigned to transport this project's LNG for a maximum of 25 years. The new vessel will be owned by Tea Tree Shipping Pte. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of NYK, and an NYK Group company will be responsible for ship management. In accordance with its "More Than Shipping 2018" medium-term management plan, NYK will continue its efforts to contribute to stable and economical LNG transport services. Mitsui develops new type medium size multi gas carrier

Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (MES) has been developing new type medium size multi gas carrier for sea transport of liquefied natural gas ("LNG") and co-product of shale gas such as ethane and ethylene gas("LEG"). In the coming decade, LNG carriers ("LNGC") may probably be classified into large scale LNGC and medium scale LNGC centering on the hub ports over the world. LNG carrier for Osaka Gas named LNG Venus

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced that a naming ceremony for the LNG Venus, a newbuilding liquefied natural gas carrier was held at the Nagasaki Shipyard of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). The vessel is under construction at MHI and will serve Osaka Gas. As a large group of guests looked on, Osaka Gas President Ozaki named the vessel, and his wife cut the rope. ABB wins order for Arctic LNG carriers

ABB has secured a contract to supply electrical power and propulsion systems for the first of 16 Yamal LNG carriers. The contract, which includes options to equip 15 further vessels, is part of a project to transport LNG from the Yamal peninsula in Northwest Siberia to Asia and Europe. The order was booked in the first quarter. A consortium of partners, headed by Russian gas producer Novatek, have joined the Yamal project to open up gas from the Yamal peninsula, which is located inside the Arctic Circle and locked in ice for most of the year. The LNG will be shipped out of Sabetta port using the new 170,000m3 LNG carriers built to icebreaking capability of ARC 7, an ice-class scale that goes up to 9. Shipment will be made to Asia via the Northern Sea Route in summer months resulting in substantially reduced delivery times when compared to transit via traditional routes, as well as cutting fuel consumption and ship fuel emissions. MOL Reaches Deal on Joint Ownership of New LNG Carrier

TOKYO-Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. has announced that the company and other two companies including Chubu Electric Power Company decided a deal on joint ownership with Chubu Electric's decision to invest in Trans Pacific Shipping 2 Ltd., an LNG carrier-owning company. MOL established Trans Pacific Shipping 2 Ltd.(TPS2), a fifty-fifty joint venture owned with Mitsubishi Corporation, in May 2012, aimed at transporting LNG from Australia for Chubu Electric Power Company  TPS2 reached a long-term charter contract with Chubu Electric in October 2012. Of the LNG tanker holding company's stock, MOL will transfer 30% and Mitsubishi 10% so Chubu Electric can own a 40% share. The actual transfer is scheduled when the vessel is delivered.
