Skangass commissions custom LNG bunker vessel

Skangass announced that it will make LNG more readily available as marine fuel in the area Skagerrak, Kattegat and Baltic Sea by operating the Coralius, a new specialised bunker vessel. Skangass has entered into a long-term agreement for the vessel, which will offer greater flexibility by operating as a ship-to-ship bunker vessel, as well as a feeder. The new bunker vessel will be ready in early 2017. Skangass has a profound belief in the potential growth of LNG as fuel for the marine market. Consequently, the company has taken another major step in developing this market by entering into a long-term charter for the 5.800 m3 bunker vessel Coralius. The vessel will provide easy access to LNG bunkering to customers and limit the operational impact of calling a port in order to bunker. Excelerate performs 700th ship-to-ship LNG transfer

Excelerate Energy L.P. (Excelerate) completed its 700th commercial Ship-to-Ship (STS) transfer of LNG on January 7, 2015 in Escobar, Argentina at the GNL Escobar LNG import facility. Using Excelerate Energy’s regasification vessel, EXEMPLAR and the conventional LNG carrier CADIZ KNUTSEN, 73,778 cubic meters of LNG were transferred using the double-banked LNG transfer system. Excelerate has successfully transferred over 74,000,000 cubic meters using its STS protocol – of the 700 operations, 602 have been with third-party vessels. Excelerate Energy developed and implemented the industry’s first STS transfer system for LNG deliveries to regasification vessels in 2005 in order to optimize the capabilities of regasification vessels and to provide a viable solution for providing a continuous supply of natural gas to market. STS transfers have been commercially accepted and proven in a wide range of environments including open ocean locations and protected bodies of water at a variety of locations between the LNG load ports and the market delivery points. First LNG loading operation at Zeebrugge

On 2nd January 2015 LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) was loaded aboard Coral Energy, the Skangass time chartered ship, at the Fluxys’ LNG Terminal in Zeebrugge. This was the first Skangass loading at Zeebrugge under the recent concluded agreement between Skangass and the energy company Eni. The recent agreement entered into between Skangass and Eni is one of the largest small scale agreements for LNG. It secures the small scale LNG availability in the Nordic markets and supports EU programs for clean industry. Coral Energy is carrying the LNG to Skangass’ LNG receiving terminal in Lysekil, Sweden. The LNG is further distributed to clients in Sweden by pipeline or trucks. Skangass is continously developing the LNG infrastructure in the Nordic markets. A new receiving terminal is under construction in Pori, Finland that will be completed in 2016. The company has decided to invest in a LNG terminal in the port of Röyttä in Tornio, Finland. Wartsila receives full notice to proceed for its first LNG terminal

Wärtsilä has been given full notice to proceed (NTP) from Manga LNG Oy for the supply of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Tornio, Northern Finland. Wärtsilä will commence construction on the site near the port of Tornio in January 2015. Manga LNG Oy is a joint venture of Outokumpu Group, Svenskt Stål AB (SSAB), Skangass and EPV Energy Ltd. Wärtsilä initially announced this project in January 2014. The order, valued at approximately EUR 100 million, will be included in Wärtsilä’s order intake in December 2014. The turnkey delivery of the first import terminal supplied by Wärtsilä includes complete unloading, storing and regasification equipment for LNG. The capacity of the LNG storage tank will be 50 000 cubic metres. A 10-year maintenance agreement was also signed between the parties. The first maintenance agreement for an LNG terminal complements Wärtsilä’s service proposition and experience within dual-fuel and gas engines and related equipment. One of the main users of the imported natural gas will be the Outokumpu Tornio steel mill. A gas pipeline will be built to the nearby Röyttä industrial site, where the mill is located. USMRC, ClassNK cooperate on LNG, Offshore and other R&D projects

The United States Maritime Resource Center (USMRC) in Middletown, Rhode Island and ClassNK, based in Tokyo, Japan, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) laying out a framework for future technical cooperation to carry out joint research and development activities for the maritime industry. This will mark the first time a major ship classification society has teamed with a prominent marine operations simulation center engaged in specialized training and research in North America. “Our goal is to support the safety of ships from not only from the technological point of view, but also the human factor perspective. The need for qualified seafarers who are familiar with the latest maritime technology is essential for the sustainable development of the shipping industry,” said ClassNK Executive Vice President Koichi Fujiwara. “USMRC not only has the specialized knowledge to address these issues, but also has rich experience in maritime training. Shell orders LNG bunker ship

Shell has contracted STX Offshore & Shipbuilding to build a special bunker vessel to serve ships powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). The bunker vessel will be based in the port of Rotterdam where it will make use of the LNG breakbulk terminal and jetty to be built by the Gas Access to Europe (Gate). The vessel will be LNG-powered, and will have the capacity to carry 6,500 m3 of LNG. The vessel will feature an innovative transfer system, enabling it to use both large and small LNG terminals. “This specialized bunker vessel for LNG is good news,” said Martin Wetselaar, Executive Vice President, Shell Integrated Gas.“Potential customers want assurance that their LNG supply is reliable and can be safely delivered. Shell’s investment in this ship, but also the commitment to buy capacity at the Gate terminal, emphasizes our confidence in the increasing share of LNG in the fuel mix. “ LNG is an emerging, competitive and moreover cleaner fuel for shipping. Skangass and NEOT sign LNG ship-to-ship bunker contract

Skangass and North European Oil Trade (NEOT) have agreed on a supply contract for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to NEOT’s coming time chartered vessels entering into operation in 2016. The contract is valid for supply of LNG in the region of Lysekil-Gothenburg-Skaw and is also one of the first ship-to-ship bunker contracts for LNG in Europe. “This is our first ship-to-ship bunker contract and we are very pleased with being chosen as LNG supplier for NEOT serving their new vessels”, says Tor Morten Osmundsen, CEO for Skangass and continues;” LNG has a fantastic potential as fuel for vessels and we are determined to further develop the infrastructure to serve the market with LNG in an attractive way.
