After twelve months of patrols and twelve arrests, Sea Shepherd's second joint operation with the Liberian Ministry of National Defense to tackle illegal fishing off Liberia, West Africa, has resulted in a dramatic drop in incidents of illegal fishing and the return of fish populations in formerly over-exploited coastal waters.

Liberia President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf officially opened the Liberia Maritime Training Institute at an inauguration ceremony in Marshall City, Liberia, in early January.  Under the management of LISCR, LMTI has undergone a renovation and facility modernisation programme over the past two years.
