A six-meter long model of the final design of the autonomous and zero emission container vessel “Yara Birkeland” was launched in SINTEF Ocean’s sea laboratory in Trondheim, Norway, on 28 September.
An entire Norwegian fjord was recently designated as an official test bed for autonomous shipping by the Norwegian Coastal Authority. It is the first coastal area in the world officially dedicated to the development of technology for autonomous ships.
The video presents the first commercial autonomous vessel and also commercial zero ballast vessel in the world. Yara Birkeland is expected to act as a game changer for the environment and for the shipping industry.
