The 15 crewmembers who were kidnapped from the containership Mozart last weekend are good in their health, the vessel operator Boden Shipping informed. 

Recent reporting indicates that the Liberian flagged container ship MV Mozart had been boarded approximately 98nm NW of Sao Tome. 15 crew were taken with one crew member killed.

Four crew members, who had been kidnapped from the Marshall islands-flagged product tanker MV Agisilaos in late November, were released on 6 January, the owner company Diamond S Shipping Inc. informed. 

3 Lebanese seafarers that had been kidnapped by Nigerian Pirates in late November have now been released, as the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

An unknown number of attackers boarded the Cameroonian-flagged general cargo ship M/V STEVIA 28nm SW Brass, kidnapping eight crew members. This incident is the 27th kidnapping with a total number of 138 persons kidnapped in Gulf of Guinea HRA in 2020.

Five crew members were kidnapped from the fishing vessel MV CAP SAINT GEORGES, in what is recorded to be the 26th kidnapping incident in Gulf of Guinea HRA in 2020. A total number of 130 persons have been kidnapped in the region this year. 

Continuing an alarming trend of crew kidnappings in Gulf of Guinea, a total of four crew were kidnapped from the oil chemical tanker MV AGISILAOS, when it was boarded 75 nm off South Lome.

In ligh of the increased piracy incidents off Gulf of Guinea, Dryad Global reported that pirates attacked a general cargo vessel, kidnapping ten seafarers. In fact, the cargo ship was attacked 14nm NNM of the Pennington Terminal, 10nm from shore, resulting in the kidnap of 10 crewmembers. Reports from Dryad Global indicate that the piracy attack occurred onboard the St Kitts flagged general cargo vessel MILAN, while en route from Koko Nigeria to Douala Cameroon. AIS indicates that the vessel was in a southbound transit when it stopped on the evening of the 25th. The precise time of the attack remains unclear. ...as the security consultancy added. What is more, following the confirmation of kidnapping, the total amount of personnel kidnapped from vessels operating in the Gulf of Guinea in 2020 is 128 across 24 incidents.  Concluding, this is the sixth boarding incident (excluding Lagos) within Nigerian TTW during 2020.

Pirates boarded and hijacked the Togo flagged bunkering vessel Stelios K. As a result three of the crewmembers have been kidnapped.

Pirates approached the Ghanaian flagged general cargo vessel AM Delta off South Brass, kidnapping 5 crewmembers.
