Abu Dhabi Ports Group has advised that access to Khalifa Port will be restricted on 12 December.

Abu Dhabi Ports revealed strong operational performance with significant volume growth in the first half of 2019. The company, as well as Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi, said its success was driven in part by concession agreements signed with maritime firms, such as Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and COSCO SHIPPING Ports.

CSP Abu Dhabi Terminal at Khalifa Port has received two of the world’s largest mega-vessels within less than a month. The two COSCO-owned ships, 'SOLAR' and 'PISCES', are the third and fourth main line vessels to pass through CSP Abu Dhabi Terminal.

Abu Dhabi Ports, Fujairah Terminals, Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD) and network operator Etihad Rail signed an agreement to connect Khalifa Port with the UAE’s national railway network. The facility will ensure the safe navigation of vessels around ports in Abu Dhabi and will provide a variety of services for an efficient access and departure from territorial waters.

Standard container handling by Abu Dhabi Ports has risen in 2018 by 24%, reaching 1.74 million containers, compared to 1.4 million in 2017. Abu Dhabi Ports reported a total growth of 14.2% in 2018, in terms of its container operations. The amount of general and bulk goods handled by Abu Dhabi Ports in 2018 also rose by 5.9%.

COSCO Shipping Ports and Abu Dhabi Ports inaugurated the CSP Abu Dhabi Terminal at Khalifa Port, the largest Container Freight Station in the Middle East. The deepwater, semi-automated container terminal is expected to make Abu Dhabi the regional hub for COSCO’s global network of 36 ports.

Abu Dhabi Ports will develop the port, in order for it to become the first in the Gulf capable of directly handling this kind of ships. Once Khalifa Port is developed, it will be able to lead to larger ships calling in to Abu Dhabi.

COSCO SHIPPING Ports Limited and Abu Dhabi Ports held a ground-breaking ceremony for the CSP Abu Dhabi Terminal during a high-level event at Khalifa Port. The agreement was signed by  Mr. Zhang Wei and Captain Al Shamisi.
