Rauma lays keel for Wasaline LNG ferry

A ceremony was conducted in celebration of the keel laying of Rauma Marine Constructions’ newbuilding, NB6002 for Wasaline, on Thursday February 13 at the Rauma shipyard. The new ferry will be the first ever RoPax ferry with a Clean Design class notation. The vessel will have a hybrid power generation system, as well as an electric propulsion system rarely used in car and passenger ferries.

The US Office of Commercial Vessel Compliance published ‘Determinations for a Vessel’s Keel Laid Date or Similar Stage of Construction.’ The work instruction was updated on September 20, 2019. This work instruction aims to establish the interpretations of when a vessel’s keel is considered to be laid or the vessel is at a similar stage of construction.

The US Coast Guard shared work instruction concerning determinations for a Vessel’s Keel Laid Date, providing guidelines for Officers in Charge, Marine Inspection (OCMIs) to determine what may be accepted for the purpose of establishing a vessel’s keel laid date.

Philly Shipyard laid keel for fourth APT tanker

The Philly Shipyard, Inc. has held a ceremonial Keel Laying for the fourth APT tanker in a four vessel order for for Kinder Morgan. When completed, the product tanker celebrated will be 600 feet long and capable of carrying 50,000 tons of crude oil or refined petroleum products.

Philly Shipyard has held a ceremonial keel laying for the third product tanker in a four vessel order for APT. Keeping with long held shipbuilding tradition, coins were placed on one of the keel blocks before the 650 ton unit was lowered into place in the dry dock.
