Jacksonville, the biggest container port in Florida, achieved record volumes in containers, vehicles and overall tonnage throughout the fiscal year 2019. The port moved more than 1.3 million TEU containers, representing a 5% growth than the previous year.

JAXPORT informed that it has achieved its best ever July container volumes, with overall container movements increasing 19% compared to the previous July. More than 116,000 TEUs moved through JAXPORT in July 2019. What is more, port improvements are currently taking place, aiming to accommodate continued container and auto volume growth.

According to a new study by maritime research firm Martin Associates, the Jacksonville Port Authority's cargo activity provides tens of thousands of jobs. The study focuses on impacts arising from marine cargo handled at the public and private marine facilities for 2018.

The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) has achieved a record number of container and auto moves during the first three quarters of fiscal year 2019. During this time, JAXPORT moved about one million containers, a 6% increase over the same period last year.

On 16 May, JAX LNG, a liquefied natural gas facility located at Dames Point in Jacksonville, Florida, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to signify the official start-up of the newly constructed plant. JAX LNG is the first small-scale LNG facility in the US with both marine and truck-loading capabilities.

JAXPORT achieved a new port record on March 18, with the arrival of the ZIM vessel Cape Sounio, the largest container ship to ever call Jacksonville. The 11,000-TEU container ship is operated by ZIM on a service offered by the 2M alliance. The ship transited the Panama Canal from Asia before reaching the US East Coast, where it loaded and offloaded cargo at JAXPORT’s Blount Island Marine Terminal. 

The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) Board of Directors approved a long-term agreement with terminal operator SSA Marine for the development and operation of a $238.7 million international container terminal at JAXPORT’s Blount Island Marine Terminal.

Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) announced that JAXPORT has achieved its best ever January container volumes, with overall container movements increasing 16% over the same period last year. About 121,400 TEUs moved through JAXPORT in January 2019. The Port is now focused on the Jacksonville Harbor Deepening project, which is scheduled to be complete in 2023

The US Army Corps of Engineers has granted $46 million for the Jacksonville Harbor deep draft navigation project. This will be additional to the $50 million in federal funding awarded to JAXPORT for the project over the past two fiscal years.

JAXPORT welcomed a record number of cruise passengers during the past year, with 199,899 passengers setting sail from Jacksonville. In addition,  there are several improvements underway at the JAXPORT Cruise Terminal. Beginning May 2019, the upgraded 2,056-passenger Carnival Ecstasy will continue.
