NYK the first Japanese shipping firm accredited to conduct IGF Code training

Class NK accredited in late March a training program for seafarers responsible for LNG and other low-flashpoint fuels on board NYK Group-operated ships, making the NYK the first Japanese shipping company to obtain an international institution’s certification in the field of IGF Code training.

Japanese partners study automatic collision avoidance

A Japanese research partnership, comprising Japanese shipping company MOL, MOL Techno-Trade, National Institute of Maritime, Port and Aviation Technology, and Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMSAT), aims at developing an advanced navigation support system. 

Phase two of Joint Hydrographic Survey starts in SOMS

Three littoral states, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, and the Malacca Strait Council of Japan officially commenced the second phase of a joint hydrographic survey of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore, on 5 March, aiming to improve navigational safety in the region.

AMSA: New safety standards for shipping liquid hydrogen

The IGC code does not currently allow for the transportation of liquid hydrogen. However, Australia worked with Japan to develop interim carriage requirements for the transportation of liquid hydrogen in bulk from Australia to Japan.
