Ship manager not guilty over owner’s negligence accusations

nternational Transport Intermediaries Club defended a ship manager against negligence allegations, that a shipowner made after the loss of a lifeboat overboard. The lifeboat was drifting off the port of Naze, Japan, after the master reported it missing. Considering the cost of changing the ship's course to recover the lifeboat, compared to the cost of replacing it, it was decided to abandon it.

Pool manager's ship misdesription leads to costly cargo damages

International Transport Intermediaries Club highlighted the costly consequences of a shipping pool manager’s failure to accurately describe a tanker, leading to a substantial claim by charterers. The pool manager misdescribed the tanker as being acceptable to a specific oil major, even though he had received an email from the head owner prior to fixing which stated that it had rejected the vessel.
