Carnival Corporation emitted about 10 times more sulphur oxide (SOx) around European coasts than did all 260 million European cars in 2017, a new analysis by sustainable transport group Transport & Environment reveals. As for Royal Caribbean Cruises, it is second, with yet four times worse than the European car fleet.

Italian authorities have released the charity vessel 'Sea-Watch 3' Saturday, the German NGO Sea-Watch announced. The ship was impounded nearly three weeks ago, after rescuing several migrants in the Mediterranean off the coast of Libya. 

The amphibious 'Trieste' vessel was launched at the Fincantieri shipyard in Castellammare di Stabia, in the presence of the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella, welcomed by Fincantieri’s Chairman Giampiero Massolo and CEO Giuseppe Bono.  

Brattingsborg, a general cargo vessel, was transmitting the 'My Song' yacht from the Caribbean to Genova; Yet, according to sources, the yacht was lost at sea on Saturday night, May 25, after slipping from the transportation ship in the Mediterranean.

The Italian authorities seized the charity vessel 'Sea Watch 3', after 47 migrants disembarked at the Port of Lampedusa. After their rescue on May 15, off the Libyan coast, the migrants were transferred onto the island. Because the Sea Watch 3 was too big to enter Lampedusa, the migrants were transported to shore by the Italian customs police, the Guardia di Finanza, and the coastguard who boarded the vessel.

The European Union decided to suspend, until 30 September, the EUNAVFOR MED 'Operation Sophia', which is deployed to rescue thousands of refugees and migrants from the central Mediterranean route. Only air patrols are to continue. 

At the G7 meeting of Environmental Ministers in Metz, France, on May 6, the Italian Minister Costa met with his French counterpart, De Rugy. Among the topics discussed, it was decided to conduct a joint initiative to get the declaration of a combined SECA and NECA for the entire Mediterranean Sea. Spain has also spoke out in favour for an ECA as well.

Air pollution up to 220 times higher than in areas with clean air was reported in various parts of the city and the harbor in Naples on 26 and 27 April 2019 by Cittadini per l’Aria in collaboration with the Committee for Livability Town and technical support of environmentalist NGO experts German, NABU. These emissions come from ships.

Italian energy company Eni signed a non-binding agreement with three compatriots, the shipbuilder Fincantieri, the bank Cassa depositi e prestiti, and energy firm Terna, at the Eni headquarters in Rome, to develop and build wave power stations on an industrial scale. 

More than 30 years have passed since the explosion and sinking of the VLCC ‘MT Haven’ off the coast of Genoa, Italy. To date, Haven is not only known as the world's largest shipwrecks, but also the largest oil spill in the history of the Mediterranean Sea.
