ISO 45001 will help the organizations not only to manage their OH&S risks and improve their OH&S performance by developing and implementing effective policies and objectives, but also to reduce workplace incidents and the cost of insurance premiums.

ISO 45001 emphasizes the need for worker participation in the functioning of an OH&S management system, as well as requiring that an organization ensures that its workers are competent to do their assigned tasks safely.

The new occupational health and safety standard, ISO 45001, has been approved following a final vote of 93% by the ISO member National Standard Bodies. According to ISO Technical Director, Jose Alcorta, publication is anticipated in March 2018.

BIMCO and the international association for the marine electronics industry, CIRM, have sent the first proposal for an industry-wide standard for software maintenance to IMO for consideration. Absence of an industry-standard brings an increasing risk of incidents on ships, delays and costs to shipowners and cyber security problems, BIMCO notes.

Implemented in 2013, ISO 27001 is one of the most recognised global standards, that demands best practice for information security management systems.

Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (UK) Ltd, a subsidiary of ClassNK classification society, has become an accredited Certification Body. The accreditation was granted by the UK national accreditation body UKAS and covers the certification of companies applying the ISO9001 Management Standard.
