The thing with cat fines

Olivier d’Olne, General Manager at Aderco Marine and Group Technical Director clarifies issues concerning cat fines, following recent alerts by FOBAS reporting about  a number of fuel samples bunkered in Singapore (June) and in Fujairah (August) which were tested and found with Aluminium and Silicon concentration (Al+Si) levels above the 95% confidence limit of the respective ordered grades.

Bunker fuel standard under review

The international standard on the quality of marine fuels is under review following a recent announcement at the 35th International Bunker Conference in Copenhagen. The expected changes have been reported but not yet finalised. The standard, ISO 8217, specifies the requirements for petroleum fuels for use in marine applications.
