Tokyo MoU annual PSC report: Ship detentions increase in 2019

In its annual PSC report for 2019, Tokyo MoU informed of 983 ships detentions with detention rate at 3.13%. Tokyo MoU has recorded a total of 73,393 deficiencies, mostly related to fire safety measures, life-saving appliances and safety of navigation. 

Padre bulk carrier detention: Crew not scared to speak about their safety

In January 2008, three crew members of the Liberian-flagged bulk carrier ‘Padre’ told a local seafarer’s charity that they feared for their safety onboard. Thorough inspection shortly after identified key safety issues and the ship was detained immediately, while ISM certification was withdrawn.

ClassNK reports 426 PSC detentions in 2017

ClassNK issued its PSC annual report, revealing 426 reported PSC detentions relating to 383 ships from January to December 2017. The number of ships detained represents about 4.5 % of the total number of ships in the NK fleet. Detention ratio of the NK fleet in 2017 is about 5.0%.
