In line with the Government's vision of promoting Inland Waterways, India inaugurated the first of its kind movement where an Indian inland waterways is being used for connecting two countries – landlocked Bhutan and Bangladesh.

As part of its effort to help educate audiences about the inland waterways’ contribution to US economy, the Waterways Council released a series of short videos to inform of how these waterways support national freight shippers, agriculture, the labor community, the Corps of Engineers, and building communities. 

As the new European policy period from 2019-2024 is to begin, the Port Authority of Rotterdam presents the port's key policy priorities for the following years, concerning accessibility and the increase of efficiency of the transport supply chains of the Port.

The inland terminals CTU in Lelystad, HOV Harlingen and Westerman Multimodal Logistics in Hasselt joined the North West Central Corridor in June. This partnership of deep-sea terminals, inland terminals and inland shipping companies on the Amsterdam-Utrecht-Rotterdam route was firstly launched in February 2019.

The EMMA project that focuses on improving the inland waterway transport (IWT), received the approval for its Extension application, by the Baltic Sea Region Program. EMMA Extension builds on the EMMA projects’ analyses, results and recommendations.

The British Ports Association is thinking of expanding its coastal shipping opportunities and focus more on port connectivity schemes within the UK. Ports are a crucial part of the British economy, as they're gateways for the 95% of UK's international trade and they provide regional hubs for economic activity and employment.

Port of Hamburg's Hamburg Vessel Coordination Center (HVCC) is developing a digital platform for inland waterway vessels, to allow ship calls to be coordinated centrally in the future. The concept will be presented in 8 May, along with the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of the HVCC. 

Cargo ships are not able to navigate a large part of the Rhine in Germany when fully loaded, as dry weather has caused a drop in water levels. However, rain is expected in southern Germany this week, which could increase the water levels once again. Traders have informed that from Duisburg and Cologne to south Germany, the Rhine is far too shallow to allow normal sailings.

Warstila in cooperation with the City of Helsinki’s Maritime Strategy Project aims to present a smart, energy efficient, waterborne and carbon-neutral passenger transportation system. A system that Ulla Tapaninen, Head of Unit, Enterprise Services at City of Helsinki, hopes will better connect the mainland with the islands, allowing for residents and tourists alike to better utilize and enjoy the true beauty that the region has to offer.

New York City Comptroller has called the US Department of Transportation to immediately explore taking over NYC Ferry, raising concerns on transparency and fiscal responsibility, as a result from the Economic Development Corporation’s contract with a private operator.
