Pipelay vessel sinks after collision with tanker off Singapore

On January 13, the pipelay vessel Star Centurion capsized and partially sank in the Singapore Strait after a collision with a product tanker. All 22 crewmembers evacuated safely, and no casualties were reported. The collision took place at an anchorage off Bintan Island, Indonesia, near the eastern entrance to the strait. No pollution or injuries have been reported from either vessel.

ReCAAP ISC: Piracy and armed robbery in Asia decreased by 25% in 2018

ReCAAP ISC published its annual report 'Piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia', addressing that piracy and armed robbery have experienced a decrease by 25%. Additionally, the number of actual incidents showed a reduction of 31%. To this result, the number of incidents remains at a low level, in comparison to previous years. There was no actual incident of hijacking of ships for oil cargo theft in 2018.

Cable ship capsizes near Singapore after tanker collision, 20 rescued

20 crew members were rescued from Vanuatu-flagged MV Star Centurion, after it capsized in the Indonesian waters of Singapore Straits after a collision with a Hong Kong-flagged tanker MT Antea, on January 13 according to the Jakarta Post. The first responders to the incident were Singaporean authorities. Indonesian navy has also dispatched search and rescue vessels to the site.
