The IMO Sub-Committee on Pollution Prevention and Response (PPR) held its 10th session from April 24 to 28, 2023.

According to NGO Opportunity Green, IMO has all the powers necessary to regulate the emissions from the full lifecycle of any shipping fuels, including the ability to place that regulation within MARPOL Convention.

During the 77th Marine Protection Committee (MEPC77) session, IMO failed to revise its emissions reduction strategy for 2050, as further revision of the target will not take place until 2023.

IMO MEPC 77 is debating a resolution this week that would set a net-zero target for all international shipping by 2050. 

During the opening day of the 77th MEPC, IMO's Secretary-General, Kitack Lim informed that the GHG emissions reduction topic will certainly be at the centre.

One week after COP26, 174 governments will meet this week at the IMO in London to address the pressing carbon emission reduction challenges facing international shipping.

The 77th session of IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 77) will take place on 22-26 November  2021.

The International Bunker Industry Association announced that an indicative example of a licence for fuel oil supply has been approved by the 76th session of the IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 76).
