CargoX, the provider of the CargoX blockchain document transfer (BDT) platform, has been granted approval by the International Group of P&I Clubs. It has now become the first approved provider to use the neutral, public blockchain Ethereum network for its platform.

CINS, together with the International Group of P&I Clubs published guidelines for the carriage of Seed Cake in containers. The practices set out in this document are intended to improve safety during the carriage of Seed Cake and to ensure that it is properly declared, packaged and carried.

The International Group of P&I Clubs issued a circular providing an update on the US sanctions on the government of Venezuela and Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PdVSA). On 5 August 2019, the US increased its sanctions programme against Venezuela, with the Executive Order 13884. 

The International Group of P&I Clubs published a video explaining its operation. The thirteen P&I Clubs which comprise the International Group between them provide marine liability cover for around 90% of the world's ocean-going tonnage. Through IG Club's structure, the member Clubs share between them their large loss exposures, as well as their respective knowledge.

The International Group of P&I Clubs approved Global Share S.A. edoxOnline platform. edoxOnline provides an electronic paperless system which is supported by a legal framework to facilitate transfer and endorsement of electronic bills of lading, removing the necessity for a paper bill. However, there is scope to revert to paper whenever it is necessary. This is the first approved system to use Blockchain technology.

The International Group has recently published some further revised FAQs on the Maritime Labour Convention (2006). These FAQs reflect the experiences that Clubs have experienced in dealing with MLC matters. The entry into force of the 2014 amendments to MLC on 18 January 2017 raised a number of questions. These FAQs aim to provide help operators comply with the amendments.

As part of the industry's efforts to ensure higher ship standards, the International Group of P&I Clubs (IG Clubs) continues to implement survey triggers for seagoing vessels of 10 years of age or more carrying HFO, the American P&I Club reminded in a new circular. 

The International Group of P&I Clubs in association with CINS launched a new guide to advice on the safe carriage of charcoal and carbon in containers. According to data, the local production of wood Charcoal and Carbon for domestic and export markets is about 53 million tonnes per year.

The International Group of Protection and Indemnity Clubs highlighted the importance of a Group-wide agreement to provide financial security for shipowners for the consequences of abandonment of crew.

The IG P&I Clubs published annual review report, focusing on several claims that have concerned operators and the maritime industry as a whole, during the last year, such as the MLC Convention, oil pollution, autonomous shipping and piracy.
