The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH) have joined forces to call on G20 leaders to act quickly to protect global supply chains from the impact of COVID-19.
The International Harbour Masters Association (IHMA) now joins the IAPH’s “World Ports Sustainability Program” as a partner. Through the program, women working in Harbor Master Divisions at the world’s ports, have the opportunity to be guided by some of the industry’s most experienced male and female professionals.
IAPH has added maritime accelerator PortXL as partner onto its World Ports Sustainability Program. An agreement was signed last week to develop a worldwide innovation platform, where ports can engage in pilots and partnerships with start-ups and scale-ups.
IAPH pays great attention to the bunkering of the fuels of the future, such as ammonia and methanol, two fuels that will be linked with safety considerations; Thus, IAPH’s project “the Clean Marine Fuels audit tool” began with a focus on LNG bunkering.
Maersk and Port of Antwerp, supported by IAPH, announced a new joint initiative, called ‘The Getting to Zero Coalition’, aiming to a commercially viable zero-emission vessel industry for ships operating along deep sea trade routes by 2030.
The Baltic Ports Organization entered the World Ports Sustainability Program, after the signing of the WPSP declaration by Mr Bogdan Ołdakowski, BPO Secretary General. The Program aims to improve and coordinate future sustainability efforts of ports worldwide.
According to the Chief of the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH) every port can do something with regards to sustainability, but they have to choose exactly on what they’re going to focus so that they do it perfectly. In 2018 IAPH launched the ‘World Ports Sustainability Programme’ in line with UN’s 17 SDGs.
The Hamburg Port Authority along with IAPH launched a study focusing on the impact the autonomous vehicles have on port infrastructure requirements. The study presents what needs to be done in the sectors of road, rail, waterborne, and aerial transportation, so that the port industry adapts automation. The study also provides recommendations on steps to be taken for port authorities being prepared for the technological progress.
The International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), along with several IMO member states and NGOs, are expected to submit a draft resolution to the upcoming MEPC next week, encouraging voluntary cooperation between ports and shipping to reduce vessel GHG emissions.
The board of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) announced the allocation of a budget fund of USD 10,000 to develop a Women in Ports Mentoring Program designed to attract, empower and retain female talent in the industry.
