Progress made for the construction of world’s first hydrogen ferry

Ferry company Norled and the shipyard Westcon have signed a contract for the construction of two new ferries. One of them will be the world’s first car ferry that sails on hydrogen and the other will be a battery-powered ferry. The two ferries are expected to be ready in March and May 2021.

World’s first hydrogen ferry to be built

Port Glasgow based Ferguson Marine along with the University of St Andrews will construct the world’s first hydrogen ferry, called ‘HySeas III’. The development of the vessel is expected to cost around €12.6 million, and will begin constructions on 1 July 2018. The vessel’s fuel will be produced from renewable electricity.
