Mediterranean Shipping Company announced that it has hired-off the vessel “Kia Ora”. MSC was the former charterer of the vessel and said that when it learned that AMSA banned the ship from Australian waters due to crew underpayment, it immediately off-hired the ship.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority has banned the Liberian-flagged container ship ‘MSC Kia Ora’ from Australian ports for three months, after the vessel’s operator failed to ensure crew were paid their wages in full and on time, and that critical equipment was maintained.
AMSA issued a marine notice to draw the attention of vessel owners, operators and seafarers to the need to comply with the fitness for duty requirements, including hours of rest, under the STCW Convention and the MLC Convention.
CHIRP has received a report related to maintenance and impact on rest hours.
