United Nations Sanctions (Somalia) (Amendment) Regulation 2013

The 'Amendment Regulation', which came into effect on 26 July 2013, incorporated decisions of the United Nations Security Council under Resolution 2093(2013) dated 6 March 2013 to amend existing sanctions against Somalia by providing for additional exceptions to the arms embargo measures against Somalia as well as expanded the criteria for designation by the relevant United Nations Security Council Sanctions Committee.

Fatal accident caused by a moving elevator cage

The Assistant Electrical Officer on board a Hong Kong registered vessel was killed by the cage of the elevator when he was carrying out inspection alone on the cage top. Man falling overboard during unrigging of combined accommodation and pilot ladder

While the Hong Kong registered vessel was underway, the Bosun worked on the lower platform of the accommodation ladder trying to recover the combined accommodation and pilot ladders after the disembarkation of ship pilot. He fell into the water and disappeared. His body was found later but was certified dead. This Information Note draws the attention of the shipowners, ship managers, ship operators, masters, officers and crew on the lessons learnt in the accident.
