Wartsila EGCS selected for ten new vessels built by HHI

In March 2014, Solvang ASA of Norway confirmed the option for Wärtsilä Open Loop Scrubber Systems to be installed aboard another of its LGC (Large Gas Carrier) vessels. This confirmation follows the order that the company placed in late December 2013 for two such vessels. The company has already taken delivery of Wärtsilä Open Loop Scrubber Systems, which have been installed aboard the VLGC (Very Large Gas Carrier) vessels, the ‘Clipper Quito' and ‘Clipper Posh'. One such order was announced in January 2012.The Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) shipyard in South Korea is delivering all of these new Solvang vessels. In addition to these new build projects Wärtsilä has also in March 2014 signed a contract with Solvang to retrofit its Open Loop Scrubber System onboard the LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) tanker "Clipper Harald". This installation is scheduled to be delivered in summer 2014. This now brings the total number of Solvang vessels to order Wärtsilä scrubber systems to six. SAGA Shipholding signs contract with Dualog

Saga Shipholding (Norway) has signed a contract with Dualog for its Crew Surf service. Saga, the open-hatch carrier subsidiary of Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK), is an international shipping company specialising in the transportation of forest products and breakbulk cargoes. Saga has opted for Crew Surf, which provides optimised internet access to Saga's crew. Crew can monitor their own data usage and can buy more Internet time on a self-serve basis. With the Dualog solution, Saga Shipholding is demonstrating its focus on crew welfare as a mean to retain qualified crew. "We are pleased to sign this contract with Dualog" said Nils Otto Berntsen Bjørhovde, Technical Manager in Saga Shipholding (Norway). HHI begins building world’s largest containership

The first of five 19,000 TEU containerships for China Shipping Container Lines Image: Groundbreaking ceremony for 19,000 TEU Containership Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has began building the first of five 19,000 TEU containerships for China Shipping Container Lines (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd.The shipowner upgraded the original order for five 18,400 TEU containerships to ones capable of delivering 600 more containers. These new ships will be the largest containerships ever built.The world's largest containerships will feature a 77,200 bhp electronically-controlled main engine and two EcoBallast seawater treatment systems.The main engine will maximize fuel efficiency, and reduce noise, vibrations, and carbon emissions by automatically controlling fuel consumption to suit sailing speed and sea conditions.The EcoBallast system can treat 3,000 m3 of seawater per hour by filtering and sterilizing bacteria and plankton bigger than 50 m with ultraviolet rays.The first containership, measuring 400.0 m in length, 58.6 m in width and 30.5 m in depth, is scheduled to be handed over by November this year.
