Why warranty surveyors are essential for deck cargo loads

In the past year many deck cargoes were shifted in heavy weather. Invariably, after further investigation, it has been discovered that the stowage and securing of these cargoes did not comply with the ship’s Cargo Securing Manual or the practices laid down within the Code of Safe Practice for Cargo Stowage and Securing or other applicable codes of safe practice, Paul Walton, a director with international marine consultant LOC, writes in an article in the London P&I Club’s latest StopLoss Bulletin.

WWL ‘breaks new ground’ with heavy breakbulk shipments

WWL recently became the first RoRo shipping company to transport heavy breakbulk cargo weighing more than 92 tonnes from Japan to the United States. Until recently, Japanese ports only allowed a maximum cargo weight of 92 tonnes including roll trailer. Following negotiations with port authorities, this restriction was lifted to extend the benefits of RoRo to customers with even heavier breakbulk cargo.
