The South African Competition Tribunal has approved Danish Maersk Line's acquisition of German Hamburg Sud. The transaction is subject to a condition whereby the merging parties must terminate any cooperation agreements HSDG has in the South Africa/East Coast South America trade route.

Maersk announced that the sale and purchase agreement for the company's acquisition of Hamburg Süd was approved by the boards of Maersk Line and the Oetker Group. The acquisition still remains subject to regulatory approvals and it is estimated at EUR 3.7 billion on a cash and debt-free basis.

The EU Commission has cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of container liner shipping company Hamburg Süd of Germany by Maersk of Denmark, subject to conditions. In order to address the Commission's competition concerns, Maersk offered to terminate the participation of Hamburg Sud in the five consortia.

The Cyprus Department of Merchant Shipping announced the appointment of Christian Bahr as its sales executive in Germany. Based in Hamburg, Bahr will be responsible for communicating the competitive advantages of the Cyprus flag and maritime cluster to the German market.
