Charges against the owner of vessel loaded with 6,000 metric tons of coal that ran aground The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is set to file charges against the owner of the Cambodian-flagged cargo shipping vessel loaded with 6,000 metric tons of coal that ran aground along the shoreline of Agno in Pangasinan for damages and alleged negligence on the part of the operator.Captain George Ursabia, PCG Northern Luzon district commander, said the vessel identified as M/V Chang Da-12 with 12 crew members, accidentally hit the rocky shoreline of Aren Point along Barangay Abagtanen in Agno town on December 19 while they are supposedly to deliver more than 6,000 metric tons of coal which came from Indonesia to their point of destination in China.Ursabia said that they are planning legal action against the owner of the distressed vessel since the Sino Genesis Investments Limited, a Cambodian-owned company based in Hong Kong is reportedly the owner and operator of the cargo vessel allegedly failed to make such positive action."Considering the fact that time is of essence to prevent the cargo vessel from breaking up which might cause an environmental disaster since big and strong sea waves brought by the northeast monsoon continue ...

The vessel with 12 crew members hit the rocky shoreline of Aren Point along Barangay Abagtanen in Agno town enroute to deliver more than 6,000 metric tons of coal which came from Indonesia to their point of destination in China.The CG was planning legal action against the owner of the distressed vessel since the Sino Genesis Investments LTd., a Cambodian-owned company based in Hong Kong is reportedly the owner and operator of the cargo vessel allegedly failed to make such positive action. The vessel also had on board 13,000 liters of bunker fuel which is threatening to spill-out and affect the coastal residents of Barangay Abagtanen. No one was injured A Pirate-themed cruise ship carrying about 100 passengers ran aground in heavy fog on New Year's Eve, but no one was apparently injured.Public safety officials in Clearwater said late Saturday that crews responded at the Memorial Causeway Bridge when the cruise ship, the Pirate's Ransom, ran aground in the Intracoastal Waterway. A second vessel, Island Times, attempted to take some of the passengers to shore but it also ran aground. Police and fireboats were taking passengers to shore late Saturday night.A city press release says a 77-year-old woman was examined at the scene but refused treatment. There were no immediate reports of injuries.Built in 1993, the Pirate's Ransom is a 70-foot-long vessel that can carry 125 passengers, according to the web site of its operator, Captain Memo's Pirate Cruise."Get lost in the pirate antics of treasure hunts, face painting, water gun games, stories and dancing for all," the web site says.Authorities said fog is believed to have been a factor in the ships running aground. Due to the cylone Thane A Korean cargo vessel, OSM Arena, with 14 members on board drifted towards the Chennai coast following heavy wind due to cyclone Thane. The storm with wind speeds of 140 kmph made landfall this morning between Cuddalore and Puducherry.The ship is carrying around 400 tonnes of bunker fuel, and was seen a few metre opposite INS Adayar (one of the Naval stations), south off the Chennai port.Last night, the ship drifted towards the coast as its winch, which is used to drop the anchor, broke down. The Chennai Port Trust is sending its engineers to repair the winch. Despite the ship being outside the Chennai port's limits, the port trust is sending two tugs to tow the ship to high seas, said the Port Trust's Chairman Atulya Mishra."There is no danger due to the bunker oil. I personally spoke to the captain of the ship, and he said that things are under control. The ship can keep sailing within the limits," Mishra told Business Line.Currently, the ship is safe and is sailing. Stranded container ship rescued near Shanghai

No oil slick has been reported so far An Antigua and Barbuda-registered container vessel carrying 106 tonnes of oil was tugged to a local shipyard for repair on Wednesday after getting stranded 15 days ago in waters near east China's Zhoushan city.A command officer for the rescue department of the Ministry of Transport said all 12 crew members were rescued and are in good health.The officer said the 7,170-tonne vessel ran aground off an island in northern Zhoushan on November 30 after gale-force winds caused damage to a compartment, resulting in water entering the hull. The ship was on its way to Shanghai from Busan, the Republic of Korea.During the rescue, the Shanghai bureau placed containment booms around the cargo ship to prevent possible oil slicks, and started cleaning up the oil on the ship.
