Google announces world’s biggest purchase of renewable energy

Google announced the biggest corporate purchase of renewable energy in history, made up of a 1,600-megawatt (MW) package of agreements and 18 new energy deals. These are all part of the company’s work to tackle climate change at a global scale. 

ABS, Google Cloud, SoftServe use AI to detect corrosion

ABS, Google Cloud and SoftServe completed a pilot project applying artificial intelligence models to find levels of corrosion and coating breakdown on ships and offshore structures. The project showed the accuracy of AI in detecting and assessing structural anomalies commonly found during visual inspection. AI techniques could also be used to analyze images over time to understand corrosion and coating breakdown trends.

Total, Google Cloud to develop AI solutions for oil and gas

French oil major Total and Google Cloud signed an agreement to jointly develop artificial intelligence solutions applied to subsurface data analysis for oil and gas exploration and production. The agreement focuses on the development of AI programs that will make it possible to interpret subsurface images.

Rolls-Royce, Google to make autonomous ships a reality

The deal allows Rolls-Royce to use Google’s Cloud Machine Learning Engine to further train the company’s artificial intelligence based object classification system for detecting, identifying and tracking the objects a vessel can encounter at sea.
