The 2024 edition of The Future of Maritime Safety Report from Inmarsat Maritime reveals that Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) distress calls decreased by 7.6% in 2023 over the previous year.

Resolution MSC.496(105) adopted modifications to SOLAS Chapter IV, effective from 1st January 2024. These changes facilitate the utilization of modern GMDSS communication systems, rendering the obsolete ones outdated.

Lloyd's Register published a statutory alert, in which highlights that a revised SOLAS Chapter IV containing requirements for radiocommunications applies to new and existing ships on or after 1 January 2024.
