Africa has been the second fastest growing region in the world since 2000, the Global Maritime Forum reports. In fact it has tripled its trade and diversified its trade links, but many African countries are among the poorest in the world. For this reason, the continent needs to make sure that this growth can benefit all of Africa.

The Global Maritime Forum supports the IMO's vision to reduce GHG emissions in the future and calls to action CEOs and maritime industry leaders in favour of decarbonization. 

The video depicts a panel discussion between Meredith Sumpter of Eurasia Group, Victor K. Fung of Fung Group, and Alicia Garcia-Herrero of NATIXIS, which revolved around global trade and its impacts on the maritime industry, on the sidelines of the Global Maritime Forum event in Hong Kong earlier in 2018.

During its latest Annual Summit in Hong Kong on 3-4 October 2018, the Global Maritime Forum presented its Global Maritime Issues Monitor 2018 report, in which maritime leaders ranked ‘energy efficiency’ and ‘choice of emissions reduction strategies’ as most likely to influence the sector in the next 10 years.

The Global Maritime Forum’s Annual Summit took place in Hong Kong on 3-4 October 2018. This high-level meeting gathered maritime leaders to discuss industry-wide, long-term challenges and opportunities. Under the theme 'Breaking New Ground, Digitalisation',  the forum discussed about decarbonisation, gender cap and the future of the industry in an environment characterized by fast-paced changes.

The meeting on 3-4 October 2018 will convene industry leaders to share ideas on the challenges facing the maritime industry and to develop practical proposals to optimise global seaborne trade and increase sustainable long term economic development and human wellbeing.

In an exclusive interview with SAFETY4SEA, Johannah Christensen & Michael Soested, Directors of the Global Maritime Forum, talk about their hopes & and present and the agenda of the forum which intends to present the first results of its initiatives at the inaugural summit in October 2018.

Danish Maritime Forum, which is considered as the “Davos of the maritime industry” has been renamed as 'Global Maritime Forum', becoming a new global platform to better contribute to a positive long term change for the industry and for society. Fourteen global and prominent industry leaders are backing the Forum which aims to serve as a broader platform for dialogue and collaboration to increase sustainable long term economic development and human wellbeing.
