First gas sales from Leviathan started

Noble Energy, Inc. (Noble Energy) provided an update on the startup of the Leviathan natural gas field, offshore Israel. First gas sales from Leviathan commenced on December 31, 2019.

Study reveals gas hydrates in European waters

The University of Southampton launched a study presenting a number of sites in Europe which contain gas hydrate, including areas off the west coast of Greenland, around Svalbard, off central Norway and west of Ireland.

Kongsberg, Shell to digitize gas processing facility

Kongsberg Digital signed an agreement to digitalize the Nyhamna facility, a gas processing and export hub for Ormen Lange and other fields connected to the Polarled pipeline. A/S Norske Shell will enter the partnership as operator of Ormen Lange and on behalf of Gassco as the operator of Nyhamna.

Snefrid Nord gas field sets new depth record

Equinor and partners announced that the production on the Snefrid Nord gas field commenced on September 1, following the first discovery tied back to the Norwegian Sea Aasta Hansteen field. The production sets a new depth record on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS). 

Oil and gas discoveries increase 35% in 2019

Worldwide discoveries of conventional oil and gas continue to present promising growth, as new finds total to an overall 6.7 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe) in the first half of 2019, according to the mid-year assessment of upstream data by Rystad Energy.

Fire erupts at Iranian South Pars gas platform

Fire took place at the SPD9 platform, in the South Pars gas field, on June 12. About 14 people were working at the platform the moment of the fire, and after the explosion they were transported to Asaluyeh, Southern Province of Bushehr, by helicopter. No casualties were reported, while the fire has now been contained.

Reliance, BP to develop MJ project off India

Reliance Industries Limited and BP announced the sanction of the MJ project in Block KG D6, offshore the east coast of India. MJ is the third of three new projects in the Block KG D6 and its approval comes after sanctions for the development of ‘R-Series’ deep-water gas field in June 2017 and for the Satellites cluster in April 2018.

23 North Sea platforms to receive dangerous gas detection equipment

Dräger Marine & Offshore will provide equipment that detects dangerous gases to 23 platforms across the North Sea, as part of three new contracts, that are worth over $1.3 million (£1,000,000). The deals regard the provision of portable gas detection equipment to three operators over five years, including over 1,700 personal gas monitors to warn personnel of possible dangers.

Eni achieves new gas discovery offshore Egypt

Eni, Italian oil company, has made a new gas discovery under evaluation in the Nour exploration prospect located in the Nour North Sinai Concession, in the Eastern Egyptian Mediterranean, about 50 km North of the Sinai peninsula.
